A season high of eighty-six drivers competed in the third points event of the year, held on the Memorial Day weekend. Early cloud cover kept the temperatures down in the morning, so when the sun eventually came out it didn't turn the day into a roaster. It was a Williamson & Williamson event, with VP of Rally John serving as event chair and your humble webmaster and club president designing the course. Drivers were given eight competition runs and plenty of fun runs before the trophies were awarded. Several drivers were complimentary of the course, which was designed to be smooth and flowing with a good mix of transient elements. The beginning slalom was tighter than ideal, but a compromise due to the size of the lot and rest of the course layout. Mark Daddio debuted his new 2012 Mustang GT and Marc Boerma brought out his classic 60's 'Stang to make a nice comparison. Doing a compare and contrast of British sports cars was Keith Wescovich with his Triumph Spitfire, and the Rookie team of Chris Andrews and Steve Sargent with their "Bugeye" Austin-Healey Sprite. The battle of the day turned out to be B Stock, with positions changing on almost every run towards the end of the day, and the final standings showing all four drivers separated by less than two-tenths of a second. Congratulations to Mark Daddio for taking both Raw Fastest Time of Day and PAX FTD, and Ryan Smith for setting fastest Rookie time. |
