The weather for the first points event of the season was pretty much a repeat of the season-opening event a few weeks earlier. In fact, it was just as cold and even windier, with yours truly piling objects in, on, and around the timing light boxes in order to keep them from being blown across the lot. A fine course designed by Tom Bracci was unfortunately compromised by the fact that no one could get heat in their tires. Event chair John England ensured the event ran smoothly, but some drivers started to leave after their work shifts with only three and four runs; the weather was that miserable. A quick huddle was called by the event chair with club officers, and it was decided to only have five competition runs and then go to half-price fun runs, in order to end the day early before the looming rainstorm could complete the bad weather trifecta with cold and wind. This proved to be a good decision by Mr. England, as the wind increased in strength after trophies were handed out, and the rain followed not long after. Congratulations to Sam Krauss for taking both Raw Fastest Time of Day and PAX FTD, and Ryan Smith for setting fastest Rookie time. |
